Pete is so very smart!! A pleasure to listen to a coherent, intelligent, thoughtful voice.

I keep thinking about Marshall McLuhan.

"We look at the present through a rear-view mirror. We march backwards into the future."

Also

"Politics will eventually be replaced by imagery. The politician will be only too happy to abdicate in favour of his image, because the image will be much more powerful than he could ever be."

One more:

"A point of view can be a dangerous luxury when substituted for insight and understanding."

Ooh, thank you for bringing it back to McLuhan. He was SO prescient!

As my 19 year old remarks every time we read/discuss AI and jobs “we’re all gonna die” and not in a shrug /get over it Iowa Senator kinda of way, but a depressed and sad way.

So the problem is complicated: not just the wholesale loss of thousands of jobs, but the continuing accumulation of power in the hands of the few.

One of the biggest problems in my opinion is the age range of Congress. Many of these legislators, like myself, are in way over their heads with current technology like AI. You can’t regulate what you don’t understand.

I have been frustrated for far longer back than the 90’s about the loss of “entry-level jobs” for young people. Most of those jobs available when I was young (I’m 62) either no longer exist (gas station attendant, paper route….) or have become Volunteer Opportunities. Young people can work in retail or food service for the most part. So many have little Real connection to their own community and seem, to me, to be just drifting through (there are many reasons for this besides not being “motivated’ and I take exception to that accusation as well). So if, as, AI takes so much more away… (and since When did WORK become a dirty word?) What now? He’s right. I have some ideas so maybe I’d better drop him a line!

McKinsey Pete has much greater allegiance to the fourth reich than to progressive causes.

McKinsey Pete is not your friend.

This was a great interview. I appreciate Mr. Buttigieg's level headedness in the face of chaos and destruction. Your questions were all relevant, but I am going to call you out on the last one: Will our next president have a beard?

If Mayor Pete wanted to be relevant he should have run for MI Senate or Gov. absent that no need to listen to him

I strongly disagree. Pete is quite relevant because millions of people have heard him speak, heard his perspective on many topics, and respect his intelligence. He gets heard plenty when he appears on Fox News and hands them their asses via calm, civil discourse. Had he run for president in 2024, I would have voted for him.

He’s running for President in 2028 and in so doing he is only serving himself and failing the nation. There are far more qualified candidates and he was needed in Michigan. He has failed to meet the moment and is not longer politically relevant
