Steve, those are great questions. We forget, or are becoming conditioned to not asking the basic questions about actions taken by Trump. We assume we're going to be lied to of course, but the questions need to be asked. Thanks for your perspective as a resident of DC.

That closing paragraph is what needs to be put on billboards and mailed to homes. Crime has become the boogeyman. Very few know what it is or personally encounter it, but Thanks to local media and politicians, it’s the thing we all must defeat.

And also what are those resources being pulled away from? Were they not busy with other duties?

Dear Fellow Hoosier, My son and future wife live in DC and I agree it is dangerous. But have you been to downtown St. Louis or Memphis recently? More dangerous. We all want crime reduced, but as you suggested these tactics won't get us there.. Boston's approach seems more reasonable and apparently has worked. It feels like this is all for show.

If he had only called in the National Guard on Jan 6th instead of trying to hang that one on Pelosi. His intent is certainly very clear and it has nothing to do with crime rates. He is a carpetbagger, wanna-be king. I hate him.

What IS the emergency that is allowing all these arrests? I wish congress would use its power to say it’s illegitimate. If the Dems get power at the midterm they need to call his bluff on all this emergency bullshit. It looks like being homeless will be cause for arrest. This is not a solution. Trump’s America is heartless and cruel.

Wait a minute. I thought all these countries are “treating us so unfairly, taking advantage of us like we’re children.” But now, they “do what we tell them to do”. JFC what a lunatic.

Keep fighting that fight! We have to keep up the energy level or Trump will succeed and Lord knows what happens then.

Don’t try to explain why crime may be committed in DC when federal troops are called in by Trump. In most if not all cases, federal troops are requested by the locals. This did not happen in DC or LA. The federals are illegal. The troops should refuse the order to go into these cities. Trump needs to be impeached for this overreach of his authority.

Tell that to Josh Barro. He's still fearmongering with anecdotes from two decades ago.

Compare it to Dallas, Miami, Orlando, and any other big city in red states…

So glad you could offer this food for thought as you gaze out at Rock Creek Park. You're the poster child for NPR snobs: barely above average, risk averse, uncreative.

And where do you live?

Because it sounds like you don't understand that Rock Creek Park runs from the Potomac by Kennedy Center THROUGH the city, up to the Maryland line.

So which side of the Park are you furious about?

Sixteenth Street or Connecticut Avenue?

Near busboys or the suitland parkway?
